She could remember it quite vividly. It had been an amazing evening sharing heartfelt life desires. He had taken her out for a date at a local cafe and the corner booth upstairs had been their haven for the evening. To crown it all, he said to her, “Wacha nikusindikize kwa hostel.†(Let me escort you to your hostel [hee! I’ve done some serious direct translation right there!] 😀 moving on swiftly… ) Besides, it was the chivalrous thing to do. Her hostel was quite a distance away. That equaled to more time together. Which is what they both wanted. She remembered them walking hand in hand, the moon and its beaming glory shining down on them. They passed by a roadside bar that had just started to fill up. Loud music boomed from the tiny room, and some rowdy men stood up singing the classic pop song…Stand by me. Bottles of brew were immediately sent out as the music gave the men the feels, drones of call girls waltzing in, taking the opportunity while the iron was still hot. The lyrics to the song still ring in her ears, but perhaps she isn’t as jolly as those men had been that day.
If the sky that we look upon , should tumble and fall, or the mountain should crumble to the sea
I won’t cry, no, I won’t shed a tear, just as long as you stand by me.
Only her pillow knew how many tears she’d cried.
Darling darling, stand by me, ohh stand by me,
Oh stand by me, stand by me.
The next morning…
“P2 or no P2?â€A huge message held in such a short text.
Then came a similarly brief response.
“Si shida yangu. Wewe jisort.†(It’s not my problem. Sort yourself out.)
Whenever you’re in trouble, stand by me.
Oh stand by me, stand by me.
Where is he now? Where?
The guilt was killing her.
“I just need someone to save me from all this.”
But He had been there the whole while. It took her so long to see, yet now she could never be more certain. Hadn’t He been there, she would have succumbed to the suicidal thoughts . She would have died at the complications that arose from the procedure. But here she was…alive in Him. His love for her was like an ebbing wave; a daily reassuring certainty of her value in Him. It drew her to Him just as the earth draws the waters in.
Despite the damage she’d done, He’d already paid the damages.
A bloody scene it had been for her, a sin hushed about by men.
But greater blood had been shed, a Saviour covering His beloved in the shadow of His wings like a hen.
The ultimate sacrifice for redemption.
A redemption she now clung to for dear life.
Her life had come through His death.
He came to her rescue when death’s sting was real.
And for that, she was eternally grateful.
It’s taken me great courage to write this two part series since I know this is a sensitive topic, but I know His saving grace is available to everyone. I sincerely hope to see a freedom from guilt and shame and a turnaround to walking in His love for us. There’s a difference in the walk of someone who knows they’re loved. Whatever it is; dead dreams, spirits, life situations, death of loved ones and even abortion…He overcame death at the cross! Death couldn’t hold Him down. He didn’t conquer the grave and death for nothing! He came to your rescue!
Prayer:
I love you, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock, my fortress my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.
The cords of death entangled me; torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me.
In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help.
From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him into his ears.
He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.
They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the Lord was my support.
He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because He delighted in me.
Psalm 18:1-6b, 16-19
Here’s a free wallpaper I made for you, perhaps if we are daily reminded of His saving grace, then we’ll have an appropriate response to it.
Also, as always, I have a song that’s been brought to memory as I wrote. This time it’s a beautiful cover by Isabeau Waia’u Walker of Came to my rescue by Hillsong. Enjoy!
I called and you answered,
and you came to my rescue
and I want to be where you are.
In my life, be lifted high.
In our world, be lifted high.
In our love, be lifted high.
Plus I bet you can tell music has great impact on my thought processes by all the quoted lyrics to songs 😀 Hence, I must give credit where it’s due.
Song 1(Part 1)- VINAI & Strrexfeat Micky Blue- Stand by me
Song 2(Part 2)- Ben E. King- Stand by me
